If you want the most iconic, sweeping views of the Treasure Valley as the backdrop for your engagement photos, Table Rock is the ultimate location. Towering above the city, this iconic Boise landmark offers a stunning mix of rugged sandstone cliffs, sagebrush, and golden rolling hills that look incredible on camera.
Table Rock provides that classic, golden-hour Idaho look without forcing you to drive hours outside of the city. It's got a variety of backdrops, landmarks, and color variety which makes it ideal for getting unique shots for engagement photos.

What to Expect
- The Landscape: You get a massive variety of textures, from rugged sandstone rock formations and steep cliffs to classic high-desert sagebrush. The city is off to the distance with several key landmarks perfectly visible.
- The Aesthetic: This location acts as a beautiful, rustic canvas for a modern, boho, yet elegant vision.
- The Lighting: Because you are elevated above the entire valley, the sunsets here are unmatched. You get an unobstructed view of the sun dipping below the horizon, creating a glowing, cinematic light.

To make your photos look high-end, your outfits need to complement the dry, golden environment of the Boise Foothills.
- Colors to Wear: Earth tones! Olive green, burnt orange, terracotta, cream, and muted mustard look stunning here.
- Fabrics & Fit: Flowing maxi dresses, upscale casual wear, linen button-downs, and boots work perfectly. You want fabrics that catch the famous Table Rock breeze.
- What to Avoid: Avoid exact matching outfits (no matching white shirts and blue jeans). You also want to avoid colors that blend perfectly into the dirt and dry grass, like light khaki.
When is the Best Time to Shoot?
Planning an engagement session at Table Rock requires a bit of strategic timing and preparation. Because it is one of Boise's most popular outdoor landmarks, dialing in the perfect time of day and knowing exactly how to navigate the rugged environment will make your experience incredibly smooth and stress-free.
- Getting to the Top: You can either hike the steep 1.5-mile trail from the Old Penitentiary, or we can drive directly to the top via Table Rock Road. Pro tip: The gate to drive to the top closes at sunset, so we have to time our exit perfectly!
- The Wind: Because it is completely exposed, Table Rock is almost always windy. Embrace it! Wear your hair down or loosely styled so the movement adds drama to your photos.
- Footwear: Even if we drive to the top, the terrain is rocky and uneven. Bring a pair of walking shoes or boots; stilettos are a massive safety hazard near the cliffs.
By timing our session perfectly around the golden hour light and coming prepared for the natural elements, we can effortlessly capture those iconic, sweeping views of the Treasure Valley. You just focus on enjoying the sunset together, and I will handle all the timing and navigation!
